Proteins are nutrients that provide building blocks and energy to our body.

But how healthy are actually proteins and can they do eat if you want to lose weight?

High time to take a deep dive into the subject. Let’s do that by first see what proteins are exactly.

What are proteins?

Protein is called protein. This is a type of nutrient that animal and vegetable diet is meat, fish, dairy products, nuts, grains and legumes. And of course, eggs.

Proteins in our diet provide two things. First, provide protein energy to our body, like carbohydrates and fats do. With that energy can move our muscles and our bodies do their work.

But proteins are very important building blocks. All the cells in your body are in fact a large part, or sometimes even completely made up of proteins.

The build-up of proteins

Proteins are made up of small particles which are called amino acids.

These amino acids are linked together as a kind of Lego bricks. Some proteins are, however, out of thousands of amino acids coupled to each other.

Meanwhile, science has discovered 500 different amino acids and 20 of them are in the human body.

Most amino acids can create our body. There are eight that we can not create. These amino acids we must ingest through our food and are therefore known as essential amino acids [1].

After you eat food with proteins, amino acids through your intestines separated. Thereafter build our body with 20 amino acids which 2 million different proteins.

Proteins are broken down by the body into amino acids. With these amino acids can make our body then all sorts of new proteins again.

All these different proteins have two important functions in your body. They function as building material or fuel.

Proteins as building material

The first major task of proteins is supplying nutrients.

We have already seen that our body consists of approximately 100,000 billion cells. All these cells need maintenance so they continue to work well. Sometimes cells must be replaced.

For the maintenance and replacement of cells needed nutrients. Important nutrients are water, minerals and especially protein. Proteins make sure our body can take care of existing cells and create new cells [2].

A good example is muscle. These muscles are a very large part of protein.
